The Art Makers
Yes! they are not just artists. they make art whenever their creativity is active and refine the work until they think it is the worst. if they show us those ‘thrown away’ pieces, I am so sure about those are million-dollar worthy masterpieces.
the typical Indian set up of society is the one that always craves stability. stable job, stable career, and stable relationships. but deep down we know that stability is an illusion or myth. the so-called ‘log kya kehenge’(what will people think) drags society behind. the community in which we live always behind us with unlimited questions till the last breath.
I really wanted to scream to the younger ones that follow your weakness. when I want to select someone I will choose the lazier one who is dedicated work in an hour but not the one who stretches the work for a day. unfortunately, the latter is ideal from the societal point of view.
for me, I chose an unconventional career for a student of biological science. while my friends are busy preparing for the NET and related exams I was traveling across the state to ‘Find ME’.
let me come to the point. Today I wanna talk about improving or giving importance to your portfolio. What is that?
for a conventional government sector Job,(again the most ideal one according to Indian Aunties and uncles) They celebrate life and make the lives of the public easier(at least it's their duty). once they are hired, they will be there forever. No offense to the government job seekers and the ones who already in service. but they have to improve little to get promotions and other perks. because the seniority matters in that sector, nothing else. (exceptions are there for sure)
this was the major reason I never opted out of the government service. also, I never believed in the so-called stability. there was a time I was dazed and confused. I am not gonna lie that even now I fear that, once the work that I do won't pay me enough to live, what will I do?
but I know that failures are my twins. it's my shadow and it taught me the best things ever. If I won't fail I never have improved from my normal phase.
coming back to this portfolio thing. last day, I got a call from my fellow hostel mate. As a history major, he wants to pursue a career in archaeology in those days. but he had a side hustle, in which he is so good. He was double-minded during the time of postgraduate entrance exams and during the period of lockdown focused on improving and refining his portfolio in Artstation.
towards the end of last month, he got a call and subsequent followups from a reputed firm even without any job application. in less than a week he ended up in a decently paid job. he has been productive while many of us devouring the digital content and doomscrolling through feeds.
if you have a side hustle, try to nurture it. devote the refreshing moments of a day to be creative and productive. Take images, write a paragraph, sing, do TikTok. you won't know how the luck is going to find you.
Smile! Be Happy!
